Very exciting news from the Future of Web Apps conference going on in London right now. Digg will support OpenID.
Lots of coverage already:
- GigaOm: Digg to Support OpenID
- Vecosys: Digg will support OpenID
- TechCrunch: Kevin Rose at FOWA Digg Adopts OpenID
So what does this mean? It means that OpenID is happening. This in addition to the recent trends is another indication that OpenID is here to stay.
Do you want to get up and running with OpenID quickly? Head over to OpenIDEnabled.com and read about delegation, find the libraries you need to enable your projects and sites and just learn more about OpenID as a whole.
Are you interested in getting users of your site OpenID’s? Check out the MyOpenID affiliate program. We also have a site API that allows you to create new API’s for your own users and domain name that is managed by MyOpenID. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions at all!

heh … Jyte widget will be available soon … in the mean time, if you’d like to hack something up yourself, the API is pretty straight forward:
http://jyte.com/api/user/info?openid=kveton.myopenid.com
Just ‘curl’ that and tweak accordingly … JSON support coming soon. I’ll release my PHP hack for the widget to the right in the next day or so.

This is indeed great news.
Speaking of libraries, are there any plans for making the PHP and Ruby implementations mutually compatible?

Thanks for the OpenID / domain link. It was certainly helpful.
Your comment system is really great. Is it fairly easy to incorporate into any wordpress blog?

@Dmitry: it appears to be working for others. What error are you seeing?
@Jeremy: the plugin is quite easy to install and use … head over to:

Log in with a foreign OpenID and follow the link…

What’s a “foreign” OpenID? What provider are you using that you’re getting the error? Does PIP give it? MyOpenID?

Do you know of an article which discusses what happens if you use delegation (or a whole provider) doesn’t remember to renew a DNS domain and someone else picks it up? Can anyone just pick up your identity, or is their something in the protocol which would prevent this?
I know the response might be too bad, but I think I remember even Microsoft forgetting to renew hotmail a couple of times. Losing your email address for a few minutes or days is bad, losing your persona on the internet could be worse.
Also, what happens if you want change your openid? Are you basically out of luck? Just hope maybe the service provider sites support this and try to figure out if they support it one by one?

works just fine for me and my openID :)

ELTopher: if you don’t keep your domain name registered then you will lose your identity. This can have serious ramifications if you have used that identity somewhere; whoever gets that domain will be able to login as you.
You can change an OpenID but the problem then becomes changing or associating that OpenID with the sites you’ve already logged in with.

I’m getting the same Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /data/web/wordpress/wp213/wp-content/plugins/wpopenid/openid-registration.php on line 472.
Did you solved it?
